Alice M. Veator

BEVERLY — Alice M. (Perry) Veator, 92, wife of the late Clarence Veator, of Beverly, formerly of Gloucester, died on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at her home.

Born in Gloucester on Sept. 13, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Caroline and John Perry.

Alice was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1928 and was a Sawyer Medal recipient. She later graduated from Salem Teachers College in 1932.

In 1936, she married Clarence and began her teaching career in October of that year at the Babson School. After World War II, she taught at the Hovey School for two years and then at Forbes School from 1947 to 1958. Her last position was at the Upton School where she taught for five years before retiring.

In her retirement, she had moved to Beverly where she was cared for by her devoted granddaughter Jada. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and dearly loved her dog "Chance."

She is survived by her granddaughter, Jada Veator of Beverly, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Clarence, she was predeceased by her daughter, Alison Veator; her sisters, Caroline Joseph, Amelia Spittle, Mary Bertoni; and her brothers, John Perry, Anthony Perry, Arthur Perry, Manuel Perry and Philip Perry.
