GLOUCESTER — Charles A. "Charlie" Morrissey, 81, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, July 28, 2008.
Charlie was born in Medford on Nov. 20, 1926, the son of the late Chester L. and Ellen J. (Shea) Morrissey.
He graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1944.
He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country during World War II.
When he returned home, he furthered his education at Cornell University, where he received a master's degree in education. He became an elementary school teacher in the Garden City, N.Y. school district system.
Charlie was a constant learner and continued taking courses throughout his lifetime. His latest course he had taken was in computers.
He loved animals, enjoyed nature, taking long walks in the woods and had floral gardens at his home along with many bird houses. Charlie belonged to the Manchester Singers Chorus in Manchester-by-the-Sea, and was a supporter of the Cape Ann Animal Aid Assoc.
He is survived by his sister, Florence M. Soini of Gloucester, a brother, Frank, and his wife Conchita of Spain and seven nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert and Jim Morrissey.
