Gloucester, MA January 29, 2007 – The Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association (GFAA) today announced that fundraising efforts through the end of 2006 have yielded a before expense total of $93,995.14.
The bulk of this came as a result of the Save Our Sports Pride Night that was held at the Gloucester High School field house on November 11. Over $70,000 has been attributed to this event. Additional revenue came in from countless contributions ranging from $15.00 to $2,500 as well as paid GFAA Memberships.
“Thanks to many volunteers as well as in-kind contributions, expenses, including the Pride Night event, were kept to a minimum.” said Richard Wilson, GFAA President. “Our goal is to keep this momentum going into 2007 as we work toward our goal of 1000 memberships.”
With greater than expected support, the GFAA was able to present the Gloucester School Department with a $65,000 grant in early December. Along with the grant came a commitment to fund the balance of the projected shortfall in the athletics budget up to another $20,000 virtually ensuring the continuance of the spring sports program.
Formed in the summer of 2006, the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association is a community based non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to support all athletic programs and facilities in the Gloucester Public Schools and the City of Gloucester.
